The Champ de Mars racecourse is home to the Mauritius Turf Club which was founded in 1812, making it the oldest horse-racing club in the southern hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. The lodge is located on the VIP balcony next to the Mauritius Turf Club president’s lodge. The racing season runs from April through to December with races every Saturday. This is a mound of undulating land stretching in contrasting layers of colour and patches of blue, green, red and yellow earth, believed to be the result of weathering.
The River St Denis cascades 83m into the lush vegetation of the Black River Gorges. Guests can view the falls from either the upper deck situated at the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth reserve, or down the trail to enjoy the shallow waters at the bottom of the falls.

In the south of Mauritius St Aubin estate no longer produces sugar but there is an anthurium and vanilla plantation that you can walk around. The colonial house also serves up a very good Creole lunch. Located only about 10kms from Curepipe is Bois Chéri Tea Estate where visitors are taken on a guided tour of the tea-making process. You can sample the teas afterwards and even have lunch whilst looking at the panoramic views of the coast.

The capital and main port of Mauritius, Port Louis was founded in 1735 and offers some great shopping spots. The harbour lies sheltered in a semi-circle of mountains, and the town has plenty of character, and proudly displays signs of it’s historical past as well being home to one of the capital’s largest shopping centres within the Caudan Waterfront, a short stroll from here will take you into the old market where you will be able to barter with the locals to get some great deals!
This is the islands main urban centre, a pleasant town with good shops, and factory outlets.
Close to Port Louis this is a nature park covering 3000 acres, at the foot of a mountain range. Other facilities are offered including restaurants, mini golf, and drives in Land Rovers to the mountains for deer and rare bird spotting.
One of the main fishing villages, Mahebourg lies in Vieux Grand Port, near the Shandrani Hotel where you can hire bicycles for a visit.
The main resource is the plantation of Ylang-Ylang from whose fragrant yellow flowers perfume is distilled. Panoramic views over the bay of Vieux Grand Port and the neighbouring islets can be seen.
